Azerbaijan to Introduce New Regulations on Precious Metals and Jewelry
Azerbaijan is taking significant steps to enhance the regulation of its precious metals and jewelry sector. Rovshan Amirjanov, the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Precious Metals and Stones, announced plans to establish comprehensive regulatory acts that will govern the composition of precious metals, as well as the technical and quality indicators of jewelry. These regulations will also cover labeling, sorting, laboratory testing, and a new framework for responsible extraction practices.
To facilitate this initiative, the Technical Committee is preparing drafts for new state standards aimed at modernizing the industry. Amirjanov stated, "Based on the priority areas determined by the Technical Committee, several new projects have been crafted and submitted to the Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization. These have been included in the National Standardization Program as per established procedures."
The proposed documents are expected to play a crucial role not only in regulating the domestic market but also in enhancing the competitiveness of Azerbaijani products on the international stage. Amirjanov emphasized the importance of developing modern technical documentation that aligns with trends like digitalization, responsible mining, and innovative analytical methods.
The initiatives aim to create a solid regulatory framework that promotes the sustainable development of the industry while also safeguarding consumer rights. This holistic approach will ensure that Azerbaijan’s jewelry and precious metals meet both local and global standards, fostering a thriving and responsible market.
