Azerbaijan urges Armenia to respect obligations on landmines
Azerbaijan is calling on the Armenian side to uphold its obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law by providing accurate information on the vast number of landmines that were planted on Azerbaijani territory during the occupation. According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, this call comes in the wake of the resolution “The Impact of Anti-Personnel Mines on the Full Enjoyment of All Human Rights,” which was adopted on the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
The resolution aims to elevate global mine action to a new level by recognizing and restoring the rights of millions of landmine victims worldwide. It also emphasizes the importance of effective cooperation among States to address the impact of anti-personnel mines on human rights and accelerate demining efforts.
“Azerbaijan stresses the need for accurate information sharing to help map out areas where landmines have been planted, which is crucial for protecting civilian populations, especially in post-conflict settings,” the statement reads. The Foreign Ministry reiterated its call for Armenia to fulfill its obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law by providing accurate information on the landmines that were planted in Azerbaijani territory during the occupation.
