Azerbaijani Delegation Participates in Gas Supply Talks with Slovakia

European Commission and Slovakia Working Group Discuss Gas Supply Issues

The first meeting of the Working Group established by the European Commission and Slovakia to address the country’s gas supply challenges took place in Brussels. According to information from the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov participated in the discussions.

Head of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, and Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Denisa Sakova, were present at the meeting. The European side emphasized Azerbaijan’s strategic importance as a reliable energy partner and expressed willingness to collaborate on natural gas supplies and the advancement of green energy.

During the meeting, SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov provided details on Azerbaijan’s gas potential and the potential for additional supplies to Europe. The discussions also focused on increasing export volumes and enhancing infrastructure development.

Orkhan Zeynalov underscored his country’s strategic position in establishing energy corridors and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to cooperation with European partners. The meeting also touched on the utilization of renewable energy sources and their export, with the Azerbaijani side sharing updates on projects such as Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe, and Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria.

As part of their visit to Brussels, the Azerbaijani delegation met with the Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, Ditte Juul-Jorgensen. Discussions centered on Azerbaijan-EU energy cooperation, the Southern Gas Corridor, and the transit of green energy from Central Asia to Europe.

Overall, the meeting highlighted the mutual interest in strengthening energy cooperation and enhancing energy security between Azerbaijan, the European Commission, and Slovakia.
