Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Met with Lithuania’s Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė in Vilnius
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Lithuania’s Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė on May 22 in Vilnius. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the cooperation between their countries, as well as economic and trade relations, investments, renewable energy, and other fields.
Šimonytė highlighted Lithuania’s active role in the Twinning projects, which are part of the Eastern Partnership Program and expressed the country’s readiness to cooperate in this direction in the future. Moreover, Lithuania backs lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and supports the Brussels peace process, Charles Michel’s initiative, and Azerbaijan’s intention to sign the peace treaty based on the principles of mutual recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In addition, Aliyev provided information about the normalization of the Armenia-Azerbaijan relationship and the process of peace talks and presented five principles for signing the peace treaty. The meeting covered other issues of mutual interest as well.
This meeting highlighted the strong cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania and their willingness to further strengthen their relations.
