Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Urges Armenia to Respect Azerbaijan’s Sovereignty

Azerbaijan Urges Armenia to Abandon Provocations and Comply with Peace Agreement
Baku, June 16 – Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has demanded that Armenia abandon provocations and approach negotiations on the peace agreement and the opening of communications in the region responsibly and constructively. This statement came in response to the allegations made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government meeting on June 16, as reported by AZERTAC.
Azerbaijan urges Armenia to fulfill its obligations arising from the Trilateral Statement, which includes the complete withdrawal of its forces from the territories of Azerbaijan. Additionally, Azerbaijan calls on Armenia to refrain from taking any steps against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan rather than making unfounded statements.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also commented on the recent provocation committed by Armenia on June 15 against a checkpoint and Azerbaijani servicemen. The purpose of this provocation, according to Azerbaijan, is to hinder the successful operation of the border checkpoint and prevent its safe and free use.
The ministry stated that it is unacceptable to consider the measures taken by Azerbaijan to investigate the reasons for this provocation, as well as to ensure the security of the border checkpoint and allow passage through it, as a “blockade.” The provocation resulted in the injury of a serviceman from the State Border Service.
The tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been ongoing for years, mainly centered around the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The recent statement from Azerbaijan emphasizes the need for Armenia to act in accordance with the peace agreement and work towards a peaceful resolution in the region.
