Azerbaijan’s Green Energy Potential Set to be Exported to Europe and Turkey
Azerbaijan Making Strides in Green Energy Agenda
Azerbaijan’s commitment to green energy has been highlighted as a key driver behind COP29 initiatives, according to Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov. Speaking at the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting in Baku, Shahbazov shared the significant progress made in this area.
He stated that Azerbaijan’s green energy potential is not only intended for domestic consumption but also for export to Europe and Türkiye. Furthermore, efforts are underway to establish a green interconnector between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, with Europe as the final destination.
In addition to these collaborations, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia, and Bulgaria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in the transmission and trade of green energy. Shahbazov emphasized that these initiatives go beyond access to green energy, as they also strengthen regional cooperation. Countries like Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria are key players, while Georgia, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan are opening new horizons for green energy exports.
The development of green energy infrastructure in the Caspian region, including wind energy projects, equipment supply, energy trade, and project financing, presents opportunities for international companies and financial institutions to contribute to the growth of the sector.
Overall, Azerbaijan’s green energy agenda is making significant strides, with multiple initiatives in place to drive the transition towards sustainable and renewable energy sources.
