Aziz Toshpulatov Appointed as Minister of Internal Affairs, Replacing Polat Bobojonov

After serving as the Minister of Internal Affairs for over six years, Polat Bobojonov has been relieved of his position and replaced by Aziz Toshpulatov, who previously headed the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs.
Bobojonov, born on January 1, 1961, in the Khorezm region, had a long and distinguished career in various administrative roles before being appointed as Minister of Internal Affairs in 2017. He was awarded the special rank of Lieutenant General in 2019.
The reason for Bobojonov’s removal has not been disclosed, but Aziz Toshpulatov has now taken over as the new Minister of Internal Affairs. Toshpulatov, born in 1978, has extensive experience in law enforcement, having served in key positions within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This change in leadership comes amidst a broader shakeup within Uzbekistan’s security structures, with several top officials being dismissed or reassigned in November 2024. This includes the appointment of Bahodir Kurbanov as the new chairman of the State Security Service and Shuhrat Kholmukhammedov as the new Minister of Defense.
These changes have been linked to the assassination attempt on Komil Allamjonov, a former official of the presidential administration, leading to the dismissal of several senior law enforcement officials in Tashkent and the sentencing of Doniyor Toshkhojaev to seven years in prison for his involvement in the attempt.
