Baby Gorilla Found at Istanbul Airport; Name Revealed
The Ministry of Commerce Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams have made a significant rescue by seizing a gorilla cub that was about to become extinct. The team followed a cage-type cargo originating from Nigeria and arriving in Bangkok on December 22, 2024, where they discovered the precious cargo.
The baby gorilla, which was in poor health condition, is now under the care of the staff at the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks. Thanks to their efforts, the baby gorilla is showing signs of improvement and continues to be closely monitored.
In a heartwarming twist, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry opened up suggestions for naming the gorilla cub, who is currently residing in a zoo in Istanbul. After receiving numerous name suggestions, including ‘Grape’, ‘Coal’, ‘Marble’, and ‘Olive’, a voting poll was conducted on social media. A total of 122,493 people participated in the voting process.
After careful consideration, it was revealed that the baby gorilla’s name has been determined as ‘Olive’. With 30.6 percent of the votes, ‘Olive’ emerged as the chosen name for the adorable gorilla cub.
