Bakhti Tashkentsky Appeals for Acquittal and Revocation of Recidivist Status

The case of Bakhtiyor Kudratullaev, also known as “Bakhti Tashkentsky,” who was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Yunusabad District Criminal Court, is now under review in the Tashkent City Court. Kudratullaev’s lawyer is seeking rehabilitation for some of the charges and is requesting the removal of the part of the sentence that labeled him as a “particularly dangerous recidivist.” Not only Kudratullaev, but his brother and six other co-defendants have also submitted appeals.
On July 19, 2024, Bakhtiyor Kudratullaev and several others were convicted by the Yunusabad District Criminal Court. According to a source from Kun.uz, the defendants’ lawyers have filed appeals against the verdict.
The appellants include Bakhtiyor Kudratullaev, his brother Shukhrat Kudratullaev, Matlub Mirzoyev, Anvar Mirzakhanov, Feruz Vafoyev, Asadullo Jurayev, Faiziddin Kamolov, and Makhmudjon Usmonboev.
In his appeal, Bakhtiyor Kudratullaev denies committing the crimes of organizing a criminal gang and extortion, as well as any involvement in money laundering. He claims innocence on over ten charges and is seeking acquittal on several counts, along with the removal of the dangerous recidivist designation.
The Tashkent City Court’s Criminal Cases Panel is now reviewing the case on appeal.
In the original ruling, Bakhtiyor Kudratullaev was found guilty of various offenses under the Criminal Code and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was also labeled a “particularly dangerous recidivist” and ordered to serve his sentence in a high-security colony.
The initial court decision sentenced the defendants to prison terms ranging from 3 to 20 years, with one female defendant receiving a non-custodial sentence. Six individuals were designated as dangerous recidivists and sentenced to serve their terms in special regime colonies.
Tragically, it was reported one day after the verdict that 60-year-old Shukurali Kurbonov had passed away. The case continues to garner attention as it moves through the appeals process in the Tashkent City Court.
