Bakhtyar Aslanbayli: $6 Billion Invested in BTC Initiative

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Marks Milestones in Oil Transportation
Since its commissioning in June 2006, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline has significantly impacted the global oil market, with BP’s Vice President for the Caspian region, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, revealing that approximately $6 billion has been spent on capital expenditures related to the project up until the end of 2024.
Aslanbayli highlighted that the BTC pipeline has successfully transported around 591 million tons of crude oil, which amounts to over 4.4 billion barrels. This oil has been loaded onto an impressive total of 5,862 tankers at the Ceyhan terminal, facilitating its distribution across global markets.
Stretching 1,768 kilometers, the BTC pipeline plays a crucial role in carrying the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Azerbaijan. In addition to this, it also serves as a key transportation route for regional crude oil and condensate from the broader Caspian region, which includes contributions from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other oil outputs managed by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
The BTC pipeline not only represents a vital infrastructure project for Azerbaijan but also enhances its role as a strategic energy corridor, connecting Caspian resources to international markets.
