Baku Set to Showcase International Carpet Festival
The International Carpet Festival is set to take place in the historic streets of Icherisheher (Old City) from May 2 to May 4, 2025. This prestigious event, organized by the Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve Icherisheher and Azerkhalcha OJSC, with the support of the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO, aims to showcase the art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving on a global scale.
The Festival will kick off with the International Carpet Forum on May 2, bringing together leading experts, designers, manufacturers, and researchers from the carpet industry for plenary sessions, panel discussions, and B2B meetings. Special sessions for young researchers will also be included to inspire the next generation of carpet weavers.
On May 3-4, the festival will continue with exhibitions, master classes, interactive theater performances, and musical events in the ancient caravanserais and squares of Icherisheher. Participants from various countries will showcase their traditional carpet weaving techniques, and national pavilions will be open for visitors to explore.
This year’s Festival holds special significance as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of Icherisheher’s UNESCO World Heritage List inscription and the 15th anniversary of the traditional art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving’s UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List inscription. Exclusive exhibitions, master classes, interactive events, concert programs, and educational activities for children will be available throughout the festival.
