New Amendments to Administrative Code Establish Penalties for Driving on Sidewalks and Pedestrian Paths
A new law signed on April 10 has introduced amendments to the Administrative Code that establish penalties for drivers who operate vehicles on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and adjacent green areas. These amendments aim to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users by discouraging reckless driving practices.
Under the new provisions, administrative liability will be imposed for a range of traffic violations, including driving on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bicycle lanes, and green areas. Additionally, installing illegal barriers or structures that obstruct the movement of traffic participants and unauthorized driving on lanes designated exclusively for public transport will also result in penalties.
Specifically, unauthorized use of dedicated public transport lanes, unless permitted, will result in a fine equal to 1 base calculation value (BCV). Repeat offenders who commit the same violation within one year of a previous penalty will face a higher fine of 3 BCVs.
These changes and additions to the legislative acts, including the Code of Administrative Responsibility, emphasize the importance of road safety and responsible driving behavior. By enforcing penalties for these violations, authorities aim to create a safer environment for all road users and reduce the risk of accidents caused by reckless driving practices.
