Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz received Thalassemia Association President Çiğdem Beşevlerli and her accompanying delegation today.

Beşevlerli stated that adding the carrier test to the health tests required for work and residence permits is important in raising the awareness of carrier individuals and preventing the increase in thalassamia cases.
Stating that they survived with campaigns during this period when they had difficulty in finding blood and medicine, Beşevlerli stated that they would have difficulty in finding a doctor for a few years.
Emphasizing the importance of stopping thalassamia births coming from abroad and raising people’s awareness, Beşevlerli stated that they are ready to share the statistical data of the cases that are increasing day by day.
Beşevlerli said that “due to the increasing number of cases, existing thalassamia patients have begun to fall behind in their treatments, and this situation creates a burden for the state.”
”It is not possible for us to financially contribute to this number of patients. “The situation of our capacity is obvious,” Beşevlerli said, adding that they requested the Immigration Department to make carrier testing mandatory.
Beşevlerli also requested help from the Land Registry Office to take action on the issue in determining the boundaries of the land given to the Thalassaemia Association.
