“In the statement of the National Security Council, attention was drawn to the double-standard, biased attitude put forward by the UN Peace Force against the construction of the Yiğitler-Pile road, which was started to be built to meet a completely humanitarian need in line with the justified demands of our citizens residing in the Pile Village, which has a special status. This attitude, demonstrated by the transportation of additional UN soldiers to the region, is compatible neither with the principle of neutrality nor with the understanding of peacekeeping.

These events clearly show that it is essential that the activities of the UN Peace Force in our country be placed on a legal basis with a written agreement.

On this occasion, I would like to emphasize once again; Thanks to the Happy Peace Operation carried out by the Republic of Turkey on 20 July 1974, using its rights arising from international law and agreements, peace and tranquility were established in Cyprus. If we can live a peaceful life today without worrying about security, we owe this to the deterrent power of the heroic Turkish Armed Forces.
