The Turkish Cypriot Citrus Producers Association held an information meeting regarding the products that could not be harvested due to the problems experienced in the 2023-2024 citrus season and were spilled on the ground and promised to be paid for by the government.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Union headquarters, Cyprus Turkish Citrus Producers Association Ali Alioğlu stated that citrus fruits are an important product that brings foreign currency to the country.

Alioğlu explained that the 2023-2024 season in citrus fruit was difficult, the products could not be exported and that they fought on this issue as a unity throughout the season, and that they carried out various studies, collaborations and exchanges of views with both the government and the opposition on the issue.

Noting that there is a receivable of 164 million TL in return for the remaining 27,116 tons of Valencia product in the branch, Alioğlu stated that the money that should be paid at the end of August has not been paid yet.

Alioğlu emphasized that the producers expect their receivables to be paid as soon as possible, and pointed out that the producers took the necessary care of their gardens after a difficult season and prepared their products for the new season.

Calling on producers for unity and solidarity, Alioğlu stated that they would take the necessary steps regarding the issue.
