“Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund’s Edson Alvarez clash in intense battle”
Edson Alvarez, the midfielder for Ajax, is in high demand as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to acquire his services. The news, reported by Sport1, suggests that both German giants are keen on the player and are preparing to present an offer to Ajax.
The Dutch club has put a price tag of 40 million euros on the 25-year-old Mexican player. Alvarez has a contract with Ajax that runs until June 2025.
Interestingly, Bayern Munich’s coach Thomas Tuchel was keen on signing Alvarez during his tenure at Chelsea. The London club presented a 60 million euro offer that was rejected by Ajax. However, Chelsea failed to secure the player’s services with their final offer of 50 million euros, which Ajax deemed insufficient.
Alvarez was disappointed with the turn of events but was reportedly promised by Ajax officials that he would be allowed to join a new team this summer. He has scored 13 goals and provided 6 assists in 144 official matches with Ajax. Although his primary position is as a wing-forward, he has also played 86 times as a defender during his career.
It remains to be seen which of the two German clubs, if any, will be able to secure Alvarez’s signature. For now, Ajax is holding out for their asking price, which may prove to be a stumbling block for any potential deal.
