Bayraktar: Türkiye-Azerbaijan Energy Partnership Thrives
A new chapter in the Türkiye-Azerbaijan cooperation in the energy sector is set to unfold, as Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar highlighted in an interview with Anadolu Agency.
Bayraktar mentioned that there are discussions regarding the transmission of electricity, particularly from renewable sources in Azerbaijan, to Türkiye through Georgia and Nakhchivan. The ultimate goal is to integrate this energy line into the European market, emphasizing the importance of expanding energy cooperation between the two countries.
Furthermore, Türkiye is gearing up to host a meeting of energy ministers from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) this year. The aim is to elevate the current bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan to a multilateral level, fostering greater economic collaboration.
The discussion also touched upon the Southern Gas Corridor, a monumental project facilitating the transportation of natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Türkiye and eventually Europe. Bayraktar lauded the project as a testament to the strong political will of leaders in both countries.
Looking ahead, the focus is on increasing the capacity of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) from 16 billion cubic meters to 31 billion cubic meters. Türkiye is poised to uphold its role as a key market and natural gas hub. Additionally, the transportation of Azerbaijani oil through Türkiye via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan line continues to play a vital role in global oil markets.
The collaboration between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the energy sector is not only strategic but also pivotal in shaping the region’s energy landscape. As both countries work towards enhancing their energy ties, the prospect of a more integrated and sustainable energy future looms on the horizon.
