Belarusian Writers’ Union Celebrates Magtymguly’s Anniversary
Pyragy’s legacy continues to be celebrated internationally, with the recent meeting between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Minsk, Nazarguly Shagulyev, and the chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Alexander Karlyukevich. The meeting, held on February 23, focused on discussing cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, specifically in preparation for the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker.
Ambassador Shagulyev shared information about the upcoming celebration in 2024 of Magtymguly Pyragy’s legacy, along with the program of popularization events planned in Turkmenistan and other countries. In response, Alexander Karlyukevich expressed the Union of Writers of Belarus and the publishing house Zvezda’s commitment to publishing materials about Magtymguly Pyragy’s literary work, as well as new translations of his poems into Belarusian.
Plans were outlined for a joint round table and creative evening to be held at the Union of Writers of Belarus in honor of the anniversary date. It was emphasized that involving young people, including Belarusian and Turkmen students, in these events is crucial. Additionally, an agreement was reached to organize a joint exhibition of Magtymguly’s works, featuring translations of his poems in various languages, including Belarusian and Russian.
The ongoing collaboration between Turkmenistan and Belarus in celebrating Magtymguly Pyragy’s legacy demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting cultural exchange and literary appreciation. The upcoming events are set to showcase the enduring relevance and influence of this renowned poet and thinker.
