Specialized School Director Detained for Suspected Embezzlement
On March 12, 2024, in Bishkek, the director of a specialized school of Olympic reserve was detained on suspicion of embezzlement of entrusted property. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this development following an appeal from the director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports, Tourism, and Work with the Youth of the capital’s City Hall.
The appeal highlighted inconsistencies in the amount of sports equipment during the property transfer at one of the sports schools, leading to a damage of over 1 million soms to the state budget. As a result, a criminal case has been initiated under the Kyrgyz Republic’s Criminal Code for “Misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted property.”
Investigations revealed that the 38-year-old suspect presented a diploma from the Institute of Management and Business at the Kyrgyz National University during his appointment as director. However, official records do not indicate that such a diploma was issued to him, leading to a separate criminal case for “Forgery of documents.”
The Sverdlovsky District Court imposed house arrest as a preventive measure against the suspect, identified as Kanybek Sagynbaev, a three-time world billiards champion.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in managing entrusted resources, especially in educational institutions and sports facilities. Authorities continue to investigate the matter to ensure justice is served and prevent similar incidents in the future.
