Netflix Announces Release Date for “Bird Box Barcelona” Spin-Off
Netflix has released the first teaser for the upcoming spin-off of Sandra Bullock’s 2018 thriller “Bird Box,” titled “Bird Box Barcelona,” and announced that the film is set to release on July 14. The original movie, directed by Susanne Bier, tells the story of a woman struggling to protect her two children in a world where looking at supernatural beings causes one to go insane and commit suicide.
The film became a huge success for Netflix, garnering over 282 million hours of watch time in its first 28 days and ranking as the third most-watched English-language movie of all time on the streaming platform. According to Nielsen reports, “Bird Box” was watched by 26 million viewers in the US and 45 million globally within a week of its release.
The Spanish spin-off was penned and directed by Alex and David Pastor, who have previously worked on the thriller “The Occupant” and HBO Max’s Antarctic mystery series “The Head.” The movie features a cast including Georgina Campbell (“Barbarian”), Diego Calva (“Babylon”), and Mario Casas (“The Innocent”).
Fans of the original movie will surely be excited to see what “Bird Box Barcelona” has in store. The movie will be available for streaming on Netflix starting July 14.
