Bishkek City Hall Plans to Charge Entry Fee for City Center and Increase Parking Rates
The Bishkek City Hall has announced plans to implement a fee for entry into the city center and increase parking rates. Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev made this announcement at a joint meeting of parliamentary factions Ata Jurt Kyrgyzstan, Ishenim, Yntymak, and Mekenchil.
Inspired by the practices of foreign countries, the city is considering restricting the movement of private cars in the central zone, also known as the “golden square,” as well as raising parking rates. Mayor Dzhunushaliev referenced London’s successful implementation of a similar fee in 2003, which resulted in a 15% reduction in the number of cars and alleviated traffic congestion.
Additionally, the municipality has identified locations for multi-level car parks and is actively seeking investments to move forward with these plans.
The proposed changes aim to address traffic congestion and improve the overall urban mobility in Bishkek. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
