Bishkek Welcomes World Billiards Championship

The World Billiards Championship in the “combined pyramid” discipline is currently underway in Bishkek, with the preliminary round matches for men concluding yesterday. The tournament, as noted by world champion Kanybek Sagynbaev, is being held at a high level with modern tables, professional judges, and live broadcasts.
Despite the excellent organization, one challenge that the organizers could not overcome is the low temperatures in the venue. Many athletes were taken aback by the cold conditions, making it a tough test for them.
With the playoffs set to begin soon, there is anticipation building up for the decisive matches on March 1-2. Although the number of spectators in the early days was limited, it is expected that more will turn up for the crucial stages of the championship.
A total of 145 athletes, including 128 men and 17 women, are participating in the competition, with representatives from over 15 countries converging in Bishkek. The main contenders for the medals are expected to come from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.
The Kyrgyz Republic has a strong contingent of 34 athletes, including the likes of three-time world billiards champion Kanybek Sagynbaev and two-time world champion Dastan Lepshakov.
The prize fund for the championship stands at 3,350 million soms, with the winners set to receive 800,000 (among men) and 300,000 (among women).
For those who may perceive billiards as a dull sport, it is worth noting that it entails a complex system of rules, tactics, and combinations, making it a fascinating and strategic game.
If you are interested in witnessing the excitement of the tournament firsthand, be sure to attend the upcoming matches. Alternatively, you can catch the action live if you are not yet prepared to purchase tickets.
