Young Violinist Laçin Akyol Passes Away in Tragic Car Crash

The world of music is mourning the loss of a talented young violinist, Laçin Akyol, who tragically passed away as a result of a car crash. Akyol, who was just 18 years old and studying music in Switzerland, had returned to his family in Mersin after breaking his foot while skiing.

On January 25, Akyol was crossing Adnan Menderes Boulevard when a car struck him. Despite being rushed to Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Hospital and receiving intensive care, Akyol unfortunately succumbed to his injuries yesterday evening.

The family of Akyol has made the selfless decision to donate his organs. Meanwhile, the driver involved in the accident has been re-detained and is facing charges of “killing by negligence.”

Akyol was a well-known figure in the music world, having performed with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and many concerts of Mersin State Opera and Ballet. He had also achieved success in international competitions, including winning the third prize in the International Grumiaux Young Violinists Competition in 2015 and the second prize in 2016.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, recognizing Akyol’s talent and potential, had sent him a special gift in the past. Akyol’s funeral will be held tomorrow and he will be laid to rest at Çiftlikköy Cemetery.

The music community is mourning the untimely loss of Laçin Akyol, a promising young talent taken too soon.
