Snowstorm Causes Multiple Accidents in Erzincan: 2 Injured
Erzincan, a city in eastern Turkey, was hit by a heavy snowstorm that caused multiple accidents and disruptions in transportation on the Erzurum-Erzincan highway. The blizzard, which increased its effect at night, resulted in 2 people being injured in a 3-vehicle traffic accident.
The falling snow covered the Erzincan city center in a blanket of white, while higher areas experienced transportation disruptions. The accident, which occurred in the Sansa area, involved two trucks and a car. The tow truck managed by Canip Çelik lost control on the snowy ground, causing the vehicle to shear and stop on the road. Subsequently, the tow truck driven by Erdoğan Gündoğdu crashed into the stationary tow truck, and then the car driven by Fatih Balcıoğlu collided with the tow truck.
As a result of the accident, Fatih Balcıoğlu and Yakup Tekin sustained injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital by ambulance. Meanwhile, due to heavy snowfall, Tercan Regional Traffic teams prohibited heavy tonnage vehicles heading towards Erzincan-Erzurum to continue without chains. Snow fighting teams are diligently working to clear the routes by scraping and salting the roadways.
