Blogger Olimjon Haydarov Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Slander, Insult and Extortion
The Fergana district court on criminal cases has concluded the open trial against blogger Olimjon Haydarov on December 1 and has announced the verdict. Haydarov has been found guilty of crimes under Article 139, Part 2 (slander), Part 3, Paragraph “a” of the same article, Article 140, Part 3, Paragraph “a” (insult), and Article 165, Part 2, Paragraph “b” (extortion). As a result, he has been sentenced to 8 years in prison under two articles of the Criminal Code.
Furthermore, Olimjon Haydarov will serve his assigned sentence in a colony of general order. Additionally, his social media pages, accounts, and groups will be deleted and blocked by the Bureau for Mandatory Enforcement.
The arrest of Olimjon Haydarov took place on July 29 by law enforcement agencies of the Fergana region for alleged extortion. The court’s decision marks the conclusion of the trial and the beginning of Haydarov’s imprisonment.
