Border Closure Between Hungary and Austria Begins Today
Hungary has taken measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease by closing some border crossings with Austria. The national police headquarters (ORFK) announced the closure of several crossings from midnight on Friday, following restrictions imposed by Austrian authorities.
The affected border crossings include Andau – Jánosomorja, Andau – Kapuvár, Wallerern – Kapuvár, Baumgarten – Sopron, Ritzing – Sopron, Sieggraben – Sopron, Nikitsch – Sopronkövesd, Deutsch Jahrndorf – Rajka, Nickelsdorf – Rajka, Deutschkreutz – Harka, Neckkenmarkt – Harka, Deutschkreutz – Nagycenk, Halbturn – Várbalog, Halbturn – Várbalog Ólmod, Loipersbach – Ágfalva, Schatndorf – Ágfalva, Lutzmannsburg – Zsira, Lutzmannsburg – Zsira, Lutzmannsburg – Zsira, and Nikitsch – Zsira.
Travel of persons and vehicles has been suspended at these crossings, and longer waiting times can be expected at the remaining open crossings, as per ORFK’s announcement. The closure of these border crossings aims to contain the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and prevent its emergence in Hungary.
Authorities are taking strict measures to disinfect vehicles leaving Hungary to minimize the risk of spreading the disease. The cooperation between Hungarian and Austrian authorities is crucial in preventing the further spread of foot-and-mouth disease across borders.
