Romania Implements Emergency Health Controls at Hungary-Romania Border to Prevent Spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease
In response to multiple outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in neighboring countries, Romania has introduced emergency health controls at the Hungary-Romania border. The goal is to curb the spread of the disease and protect the country from becoming further affected.
According to reports, the National Centre for Disease Control has put in place strict measures, especially along the Hungary-Romania border, after holding an extraordinary meeting. The import of live animals, feed, straw, compost, and manure from Hungary has been banned. Additionally, meat and dairy products from cloven-footed ungulates originating in affected regions are also prohibited.
The decision to implement these controls comes as EU countries face restrictions from the UK, while Romania focuses on preventing foot-and-mouth disease from spreading across its borders. With recent outbreaks in Hungary, Slovakia, and Germany, authorities are taking preventive measures to combat the disease’s transmission.
To prevent the further spread of foot-and-mouth disease, veterinary checkpoints have been set up on key routes from Hungary, and increased farm disinfection measures are in place. Enhanced vehicle checks and mandatory disease testing for all incoming animals at the Hungary-Romania border are now in effect.
