Turkmenistan President’s Japan Visit for Economic Collaboration

Ashgabat, April 12. ORIENT. At a recent government meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, provided updates on the preparations for an upcoming working visit by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that Turkmenistan places great importance on developing mutually beneficial cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with Japan being a key partner. Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Japan were established in 1992, and since then, a strong legal framework for bilateral cooperation has been established. Regular communication and collaboration between the two countries at the parliamentary and governmental levels have also been maintained.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s upcoming visit to Japan will include participation in events dedicated to Turkmenistan’s National Day on April 14 at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. This event will serve as a significant platform for showcasing the country’s achievements and enhancing its international reputation.

Over the past 15 years, Turkmenistan and Japan have successfully implemented several major joint projects in sectors such as gas chemistry, electric power, transport, and water management. The strategic partnership between the two countries has facilitated the exchange of advanced technologies and investment opportunities.

The Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation play a vital role in coordinating interstate relations, identifying new areas for collaboration, and implementing joint projects. Cooperation in the scientific and educational spheres is also a priority, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) being a key partner for Turkmenistan.

Efforts are currently underway to ensure that President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Japan is organized at a high level. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented the visit’s program for the president’s consideration.

The upcoming working visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and foster new opportunities for cooperation in various fields.
