Hungarian Police to Purchase Reconnaissance Equipment for Border Surveillance
The National Police Headquarters (ORFK) in Hungary has announced that they will be utilizing nearly HUF 4.8 billion in non-refundable subsidies to acquire reconnaissance equipment for monitoring the country’s Schengen border sections. The new equipment will include state-of-the-art devices and systems mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to enhance the surveillance capabilities at the external border.
The program, funded by a non-reimbursable grant of HUF 4.791 billion (EUR 11.7 million) through the Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument Plus, aims to bolster the existing reconnaissance equipment used for monitoring the border. The Hungarian Police have already been utilizing various electro-optical detection systems to provide technical support for border surveillance.
The border surveillance system is designed to cover large open areas using stable thermal imaging systems, monitor terrain sections with mobile imaging systems, and provide surveillance in areas inaccessible to other equipment through handheld thermal imaging cameras. Additionally, the combined use of daylight and thermal imaging camera systems has proven effective in enhancing border surveillance effectiveness.
The introduction of UAVs will further enhance the surveillance system by offering dynamic observation positions for clear target identification. The police believe that this advancement will contribute significantly to improving border control and security in Hungary.
The complex border protection system, which includes the new reconnaissance equipment, will play a crucial role in safeguarding Hungary’s Schengen border sections. The combination of advanced technology and strategic surveillance measures demonstrates the commitment of the Hungarian Police to ensuring the safety and security of the country’s borders.
