Border Service Reveals Cause of Lengthy Delays at Uzbekistan Border

Kyrgyzstan Border Service Reports Increase in Traffic at Kyrgyz-Uzbek Checkpoints
Bishkek – August 28, 2024 – The Kyrgyz-Uzbek checkpoints on the state border are currently experiencing a surge in activity, with an increase in the flow of passengers and cars passing through the Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint. The Information and Communications Department of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan has reported that approximately 18,000-26,000 people are crossing the checkpoint daily, exceeding its designed throughput capacity of 16,400 people per day.
The Border Service attributed the rise in traffic to various factors such as the operation of markets in the Osh region, influx of students to their study locations, the ongoing tourist season, and seasonal work opportunities. To manage the increased activity, the checkpoint has implemented specific measures, including separate corridors for travelers with cargo and without it, equipped border patrols with video recorders, and maintaining order in the adjacent areas with the help of law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, the checkpoint is equipped with video cameras and an information board displaying hotline numbers and contact details of the Border Service management. The Border Service assures prompt consideration of all citizens’ requests and conducts official investigations when necessary.
As of August 28, the following checkpoints are operational on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border: Madaniyat-Avtodorozhny and Baimak-Avtodorozhny in Jalal-Abad region, Dostuk-Avtodorozhny in Osh region, and multiple checkpoints in Batken region. The Border Service advises citizens to plan their trips and travel routes in advance to avoid any inconvenience caused by the increased traffic at the checkpoints.
