Police and Gendarmerie Forces conduct operations in multiple provinces to combat terrorism
In a recent statement by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Yerlikaya, it was revealed that the Provincial Gendarmerie Commands had conducted operations in various provinces including Adıyaman, Ağrı, Aydın, Burdur, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Giresun, Hatay, İstanbul, Kocaeli, Kilis, Osmaniye, Rize, Siirt, Şırnak, Tekirdağ, and Van. These operations were aimed at targeting individuals who were found to be involved in terrorist propaganda through their social media accounts and were suspected of being members or supporters of terrorist organizations.
Similarly, Police Departments in Istanbul, Mersin, Ankara, Antalya, Aydın, Denizli, Elazığ, İzmir, Kilis, Manisa, Mardin, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak, and Van also carried out operations to combat terrorism. In one such operation in Istanbul, suspects were discovered to be part of the “Press Structure” of a separatist terrorist organization, spreading propaganda through news sites and social media accounts affiliated with the organization.
During these operations, authorities seized many unlicensed firearms, hunting rifles, hand grenades, digital materials, and organizational documents. The suspects were found to have participated in illegal activities, including aiding members of captured terrorist organizations and engaging in illegal border crossings.
The successful operations by both the Gendarmerie and Police forces reflect the commitment of Turkish security forces to combat terrorism and maintain peace and security in the region. The arrests made during these operations serve as a deterrent to individuals engaging in illegal and terrorist activities.
