Istanbul Airport to Implement Simultaneous Triple Independent Runway Operations
Istanbul Airport is set to reach a new milestone as it prepares to implement simultaneous triple independent runway operations, allowing for three aircraft to land or take off at the same time. This groundbreaking application, announced by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, is scheduled to commence on Thursday, April 17 at 10.00.
Minister Uraloglu highlighted that Turkey will be the first country in Europe to implement this system, which is already in use in the United States. By facilitating the landing and take-off of three aircraft simultaneously, Istanbul Airport aims to streamline its operations and increase its dynamic capacity.
In preparation for this new era at Istanbul Airport, the Ministry has collaborated with Eurocontrol, State Airports Authority, General Directorate of Civil Aviation, and Turkish Airlines since the end of 2022. Minister Uraloglu emphasized that the new airspace design and control systems have been implemented, airline companies have been informed about the upcoming changes, and simulator trainings have been provided to officials.
