New details emerged in the IMM Corruption Investigation
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into Ekrem Imamoglu and 99 suspects who were dismissed from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) presidency on charges of being involved in a criminal organization. The suspects are being investigated for various offenses including being a criminal organization manager, bribery, fraud, and illegal acquisition of personal data.
One witness, identified as A.Ş., stated that he worked as a manager at Sev Advertising Company between 2019 and 2023, and mentioned the names of the partners in the company. He denied receiving any tenders from IMM during his time at the company and claimed to have started his own business after leaving. He also mentioned the possibility of receiving tenders from subsidiary companies of the municipality.
Another witness, referred to as OC, claimed to have worked at Kültür A.Ş. as a contracted officer following Ekrem İmamoğlu’s election as mayor in 2019. He detailed his interactions with Serdal Taşkın, the General Manager of Kültür A.Ş., and described attending meetings where issues related to outdoor advertising tenders were discussed.
OC alleged that after these meetings, bags believed to contain money were carried by Taşkın and Murat Ongun, a member of Ekrem İmamoğlu’s team. He claimed to have assisted in exchanging foreign currency and gold for them due to his connections in the Grand Bazaar.
Furthermore, witness OS, who owns a popular media company, revealed his involvement in the open-air advertising sector and described his business dealings with his brother. He mentioned a contract with İlbak Holding that was renewed after receiving metro and digital panel work from the municipality.
OS also raised concerns about unfair practices in the permission process and expressed disappointment that his brother did not take legal action against the municipality. He cited instances where advertising spaces were allocated to others without proper authorization.
The investigation into the alleged corruption within the IMM continues to unravel new details, shedding light on the intricate web of relationships and transactions that have come under scrutiny. As the case progresses, more revelations are expected to surface, potentially implicating additional individuals and entities in the scandal.
