Kyrgyz Embassy in Brussels Prepares to Celebrate Chingiz Aitmatov’s 100th Anniversary
On March 10, 2025, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Brussels hosted a meeting between Ambassador Aydit Erkin and Eldar Aitmatov, President of the Chingiz Aitmatov International Foundation. The discussion centered around the upcoming celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Kyrgyz writer, Chingiz Aitmatov.
During the meeting, the writer’s son generously donated new editions of his father’s works in various languages to the office-museum of Chingiz Aitmatov. This gesture highlights the enduring legacy of Aitmatov’s literary contributions and his impact on a global scale.
Chingiz Aitmatov held various diplomatic positions throughout his career, including serving as the USSR Ambassador to the Benelux countries and later as Russia’s Ambassador to the same region. From 1994 to March 2008, he represented Kyrgyzstan as Ambassador to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands with residence in Brussels.
As the world prepares to commemorate the centenary of Chingiz Aitmatov’s birth on December 12, 2028, initiatives like the donation of new editions of his works underscore the ongoing relevance and significance of his literary oeuvre.
