BTHK President Bürüncük Addresses Turkish Informatics Association Event
Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTHK) President Kadri Bürüncük recently addressed attendees at the Kamu-BİB’26 and BİMY’30 integrated event in Antalya. The event was organized by the Turkish Informatics Association (TBD) and was focused on the theme of “Critical Infrastructures Resistant to Natural Disasters.”
During his speech, Bürüncük emphasized the importance of ensuring that critical infrastructures are resilient in the face of both natural disasters and cyber threats. He cited the devastating impact of the February 6 earthquake and stressed the need to learn from such disasters. Bürüncük called for increased investments in critical infrastructure continuity and highlighted the significance of incentivizing the sector to prioritize these efforts.
In addition to addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters, Bürüncük also underscored the vulnerability of critical infrastructures to cyberattacks. He cautioned that a cyber earthquake could paralyze essential systems such as the health system, state administration, and electricity infrastructure. Bürüncük urged for backup and maintenance measures to safeguard critical infrastructures from both natural and cyber threats.
Bürüncük also spoke about the importance of advancing e-government applications and digital services. He acknowledged Turkey’s leadership in e-government and expressed hope that similar advancements could be achieved in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Bürüncük stressed the need for investments in technology and human resources to drive the digital industry’s growth and development.
Moreover, Bürüncük highlighted ongoing collaboration between BTHK and TBD, with a focus on expanding educational and employment opportunities in the technology sector. He also referenced the upcoming TRNC Horizon 2033 IT Island Closed Vision Meeting, where discussions will revolve around strategies for advancing the technology landscape in the region.
