Budapest Airport Offers Generous Donation

Over 1,000 Athletes Participate in Budapest Airport’s Eleventh Runway Run

The eleventh edition of the Runway Run took place at Budapest Airport, with 1,060 athletes in attendance. The event was held on the closed runway I of the airport, and this year, participants had the unique experience of running the selected distance in the beautiful lights of the sunset.

Apart from the runner’s shirts included in the start pack, participants also had the opportunity to purchase official T-shirts from previous years to support chosen charities. The funds raised from these sales amounted to a total of 14,842,926 HUF and 9260 EUR. Budapest Airport donated this amount to two foundations, the Save Lives Foundation and the SUHANJ! Foundation. The Save Lives Foundation received 7,421,463 HUF and 4630 EUR, while the SUHANJ! Foundation received the same amount. This donation contributed to a total of more than 18 million HUF raised for these charities.

During its eleven-year history, the charity run has now collected over 100 million HUF in donations. This achievement highlights the incredible support and generosity from the participants and Budapest Airport towards these important causes.

One of the selected charities, the Save Lives Foundation, aims to fulfill the dreams of children with serious, life-threatening diseases. The funds provided by the Runway Run will be used to fund three main programs. The Dream School helps integrate children back into daily life after treatment through educational programs. The Dream Commando supports the families of children in recovery, and the Dream Wizards team works to fulfill the secret wishes and dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses.

The SUHANJ! Foundation, which has received support from Budapest Airport for the past nine years, will utilize the donation to purchase equipment such as hand cycles and running strollers. These will support sports activities for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the foundation plans to develop SUHANJ! Fitness, an integrated fitness center catering to both disabled and able-bodied individuals.

Katalin Valentínyi, the Chief Communication and Government Relations Officer for Budapest Airport, expressed the company’s commitment to socially important issues. As a significant player in the Hungarian economy, Budapest Airport believes in supporting initiatives and organizations that assist disadvantaged individuals. Valentínyi emphasized the importance of the Runway Run in bringing people together for a good cause. She commended the airport community for demonstrating the strength of unity for the eleventh consecutive year.

The Runway Run is a sporting event traditionally organized for members of the aviation industry, representing the unity within the airport community. This year, athletes from the SUHANJ! Foundation and the Save Lives Foundation also participated. Additionally, Budapest Airport conducted a social media campaign, allowing people to win a slot for registration. The airport extended its gratitude to the 150 civilian participants for supporting the selected foundations through their entry fees.

The success of the eleventh edition of the Runway Run showcases the commitment of Budapest Airport and its community to charitable causes. The event not only provides an opportunity for runners to enjoy the unique experience of running on an airport runway but also promotes the spirit of giving back to the society.
