Budapest Traffic Update: What You Need to Know as Normalcy Returns
The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has announced that normal traffic will resume in Budapest as the floodwaters recede and the Danube returns to its normal levels.
One of the major developments is the reopening of suburban railway line H5 (Budapest-Szentendre) on the entire line starting from Wednesday. This includes the reopening of the Battyány Square metro station which was closed last week due to the rising water levels. This will allow passengers traveling from Szentendre to change to metro line M2 at Battyány Square station. Additionally, the bike lane between the Margaret Bridge and Batthyány Square will also reopen for bikers to enjoy.
Furthermore, the lower embankments on both sides of the capital will open on 26th September after necessary cleaning work is completed. According to BKK, thorough inspection and cleaning are required before reopening as the floodwater left behind a significant amount of waste and bacteria which may pose health risks.
Authorities are still working on pumping water from a segment of tram line nr 2, renowned as one of the world’s most beautiful tram lines. However, experts are confident that the entire line can be reopened to the public by Friday or Saturday. Currently, trams are only operating between Jászai Mari Square and the Hungarian Parliament.
The efforts to restore normal traffic in Budapest are in full swing, ensuring the safety and convenience of commuters in the city.
