Budapest’s Vivicittá Race Breaks Participation Record
The 40th Telekom Vivicittá running festival in Budapest has made history with a record-breaking 31,530 participants, the highest turnout ever for the event. The Budapest Sport Office (BSI) announced that this year’s race not only surpassed the previous participation record but also set new milestones in terms of international runners and female participation.
Over 3,300 runners from 106 countries traveled to Budapest for the event, with international participants making up a significant portion of the half marathon field. The largest foreign contingents came from Germany, Slovakia, and France. Additionally, runners from 1,177 Hungarian towns and cities joined the event, with half of the Hungarian participants coming from outside the capital.
A significant highlight of this year’s festival was the increase in female participation, with women making up the majority of all runners for the first time in the event’s history. Among Hungarian participants completing their first half marathon, 10 km, or 7 km race, the number of women rose to 59%.
CEO of BSI, Árpád Kocsis, expressed his delight at the success of the 40th Telekom Vivicittá, stating that the record number of participants is a clear indication of the growing popularity of running and recreational sports in Hungary.
