“Bulgaria Emerges as a Dependable Energy Transport Partner”
Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó, has stated that energy infrastructure development in Southeastern Europe is a key priority for Hungary and regards Bulgaria as a reliable partner. The Minister noted that Azerbaijan’s gas production is currently the most important alternative, but it too requires the development of energy interconnections. Szijjártó also praised Bulgaria for its predictable gas supply, and emphasized that the country will remain an important partner for Hungary in the future. Bulgaria’s Energy Minister, Rossen Hristov, echoed Szijjártó’s sentiments and stressed that energy security is also a matter of national security, adding that Bulgaria will remain a reliable transit state even during the most critical periods. The two leaders shared similar views on the nuclear issue and the importance of investments in diversifying energy sources. Hungary and Bulgaria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Central Europe.
