Can Akın Çağlar: The Journey of a Successful Financial Leader
Can Akın Çağlar, the current Secretary General of IMM, was born in 1962 in Sivas and has a long and impressive career in the financial sector. After completing his high school and university education in Istanbul, Çağlar graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University in 1983. He then went on to participate in the Master’s Program in the Money and Banking Department of the same university.
In 1985, Çağlar started his career in the public sector as a Banks Inspector at the Undersecretariat of Treasury. During his 10 years in the public sector, he undertook various audit duties in a large number of banks and financial organizations operating in Turkey.
After completing a master’s degree in financial economy at Boston University in the USA between 1995 and 1997, Çağlar returned to Turkey and continued his career as an assistant general manager at Egebank AŞ and Ege Yatırım AŞ. He then worked as a General Manager at Faisal (Family) Finans AŞ Participation Bank from 1998 to 2003 before returning to the public sector as the General Manager of TC Ziraat Bank for 8.5 years.
In 2011, Çağlar left his post at Ziraat Bank and was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Banking Regulation and Supervisory Board (BRSA). In 2014, he continued his professional life as the General Manager of Eureko Sigorta A.Ş. During his 5-year tenure at Eureko Insurance, he also served as a member of various boards within the insurance sector.
Before his appointment as the Secretary General of IMM, Çağlar held the position of Vice President of the Board of Directors at Eureko Sigorta Inc. He is married and has three children.
