Police Trap Thief Inside Apartment in Aksaray
In a dramatic turn of events, police in Aksaray, Turkey, found themselves trapped inside an apartment with a thief they had caught red-handed. The incident occurred on the 2nd floor of a building in the Büyük Bölcek District, where a concerned citizen had reported seeing a flashlight burning inside the apartment to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Upon receiving the report, Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch Theft Bureau teams quickly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area around the building. Another team, under the coordination of the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, scaled the outer door of the building and accessed the balcony. From there, they entered silently through an open balcony door and apprehended the thief, identified as 40-year-old Rıdvan B.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the police teams were unable to reach the homeowner and became trapped inside the apartment with the thief. Despite their efforts, they were unable to free themselves and had to call for assistance from the Aksaray Municipality Fire Department.
Fire Department teams quickly arrived with a ladder truck and were able to lower the police teams, along with the captured thief, to safety. The thief was then taken to Aksaray Training and Research Hospital for a medical check-up before being transferred to the Public Order Branch Theft Bureau for further questioning.
It was later discovered during interrogation that the thief, Rıdvan B., had 12 separate theft records, was wanted by the Antalya Provincial Police Department, and had an outstanding arrest warrant. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
