Israel and Hamas Reach Temporary Ceasefire Agreement and Hostage Exchange
A temporary ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement has been reached between Israel and Hamas, with the truce starting at 07:00 local time. The ceasefire will be valid in both the north and south of Gaza.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hamas will release 13 hostages, all women and children, by 16:00 today. The hostages are set to be handed over to the Red Cross, although no details have been given as to the specific route they will take out of Gaza. Israel has announced that it has received the list of hostages to be released and that their families have been contacted.
In exchange, 39 Palestinian women and child prisoners held in Israeli prisons will be freed today. Furthermore, over the course of four days, the number of hostages released by Hamas will reach 50, while Israel will release 150 Palestinian women and children held in prison.
The ceasefire agreement also includes provisions for the ceasefire to be extended by one day for every 10 additional Israelis to be released. Additionally, during the four-day ceasefire, four fuel tankers and 200 aid trucks will be allowed to enter Gaza per day.
