CEC decides against buying new equipment for upcoming parliamentary elections

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Kyrgyzstan (CEC) has announced that they do not plan to purchase new equipment for the upcoming parliamentary elections. This decision was shared by CEC Chairman Tynchtyk Shainazarov during a briefing.

Shainazarov emphasized that the equipment currently in use was updated before the last election of local council deputies in November. He stated, “This equipment is quite sufficient for the next parliamentary elections. If the MPs make changes to the law, new software may be necessary to account for discussions on elections by constituencies and gender issues.”

In 2024, equipment worth 1 billion soms was purchased, which included components for the repair and maintenance of various election equipment. This included 5,716 automatically reading ballot boxes, 5,750 identification devices with printers, 3,000 uninterruptible power supply units, 3,000 video surveillance cameras, and real-time recording devices for digital cameras, among other items.

The next election of parliament deputies is scheduled to take place in 2026. There have been discussions led by Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu proposing changes to the election system. However, at this time, the CEC does not foresee the need for new equipment for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
