CEC removes Deputy Sultanbai Aizhigitov’s mandate

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Kyrgyzstan (CEC) has taken action against Zhogorku Kenesh deputy Sultanbai Aizhigitov. In a meeting held on March 28, the CEC decided to terminate his powers as a deputy of the Parliament.

The decision to cancel Aizhigitov’s registration as an elected deputy was supported by eleven members of the CEC, with only one member voting against it. This action was taken after the CEC received a letter from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) concerning Aizhigitov.

According to the head of the SCNS department, Zhenish Seyitov, Sultanbai Aizhigitov failed to disclose his criminal past and previous criminal charges when he applied to run as a candidate for deputy in the Zhogorku Kenesh.

This move by the CEC comes after the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, hinted at the possibility of Aizhigitov losing his deputy mandate during a session in the Zhogorku Kenesh on March 19.

The decision to revoke Sultanbai Aizhigitov’s powers as a deputy highlights the importance of transparency and honesty in the electoral process. It serves as a reminder that candidates must fully disclose their background and criminal history when running for public office.
