Celebrate International Snow Leopard Day with Askat Alagozov on October 23
The United Nations has shown its support for the initiative of Kyrgyzstan’s President, Sadyr Japarov, in establishing the International Day of the Snow Leopard. The announcement was made by the press secretary of the head of state, Askat Alagozov, on Facebook.
According to the resolution of the UN General Assembly, October 23 has been designated as the International Day of the Snow Leopard. This decision highlights the global importance of Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to preserve the unique nature of Central Asia. The snow leopard, a symbol of high-mountain ecosystems, now has its own day on the international calendar.
President Sadyr Japarov had previously emphasized the snow leopard’s significance at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2024. He described the snow leopard as a symbol of sustainable development in the region and outlined Kyrgyzstan’s conservation efforts.
In a decree signed in 2023, President Japarov officially recognized the snow leopard as a national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic. The president’s press secretary called on fellow citizens to cherish and protect the country’s unique nature, home to the majestic snow-capped mountains and the symbolic snow leopard.
