Turkmenistan Celebrates National Spring Holiday – International Day of Nowruz

On March 21, Turkmenistan came alive with vibrant celebrations for the National Spring Holiday – International Day of Nowruz. The main festivities took place at the “Nowruz ýaýlasy” in the Ak Bugday etrap of the Ahal velayat.

The “Nowruz ýaýlasy” was filled with inspiring songs, music, folklore, and ethnographic stage productions showcasing the historical traditions of Nowruz. Decorated white yurts were set up to create a picturesque image of a Turkmen village, reflecting the customs and traditions associated with family life and village living. Visitors also had the chance to admire folk decorative art and national crafts.

National games, competitions, and a display of Turkmen dishes, including the traditional treat “semeni” made from wheat, flour, and sugar, added to the festive atmosphere. Skilled riders on Akhal-Teke horses, a highlight of national holidays in Turkmenistan, demonstrated their prowess.

Foreign tourists were not left out of the celebrations, with many joining in the festivities to experience a joyous Turkmen celebration complete with songs, dances, and fun. Additionally, celebrations for the National Spring Holiday were held at Türkmeniň ak öýi (“White Yurt of the Turkmen”) sites across the country’s velayats and in the city of Arkadag.

The International Day of Nowruz was a colorful and lively event that highlighted the rich culture and traditions of Turkmenistan, welcoming both locals and visitors to partake in the festive spirit.
