Centenarian Artillery Shell Discovered in Rubble
After meticulous work was carried out on the wreckage of a historic mosque in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, it has been determined that a cannonball found in the debris will likely be exhibited in the city’s museum. This decision was announced by a local official, Bozkurt, who stated that the cannonball holds historical significance and will be a valuable addition to the museum’s collection.
Furthermore, plans are in place for the reconstruction of the mosque using the original stones that were salvaged from the wreckage. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, along with the General Directorate of Foundations, will oversee the scanning and restoration projects to ensure the mosque is rebuilt in its original form. Once completed, the restored mosque will be available for use by the people of Kahramanmaraş.
Bozkurt also outlined a timeline for the reconstruction project, aiming to have it finished by the end of 2025. However, he noted that unforeseen circumstances, such as the natural characteristics of the mosque and the conditions during the construction process, may impact the timeline. Despite these potential challenges, the restoration of the historic mosque is a priority for preserving the cultural heritage of Kahramanmaraş.
