
Centennial Republic of Turkey Celebrations: Cortege Parade on Mehmet Akif Street – BRTK

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey was celebrated with a march on Mehmet Akif Street (Dereboyu). The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu, and Security Forces Commander Major General Osman Aytaç.
After the march, there were speeches given by various officials. President Ersin Tatar expressed his gratitude to Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, for completing the Turkish people’s liberation struggle and implementing crucial reforms. He emphasized the strong ties between the TRNC and Turkey, stating that no power could sever these connections.
President Tatar also spoke about the potential agreement in Cyprus, stressing that it should be a two-state agreement and there should be no turning back from that decision. He emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people will not be dragged into loneliness and adventure under a federal roof or in an EU without Turkey, as this century belongs to Turkey.
Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu, expressed his belief that the next century will be Turkey’s century in the world. He stated that Turkey will achieve many more accomplishments in the footsteps of Atatürk and that the TRNC will remain strong.
Minister of National Education, Nazım Çavuşoğlu, emphasized the importance of working together, coming to light, and shaping the future. He stated that protecting the homeland is their primary duty and that these lands were made a homeland with the blood of martyrs.
Overall, the event was a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey and a reaffirmation of the strong bond between the TRNC and Turkey.
