Güzelyurt Celebrates August 30 Victory Day
A ceremony was held in Güzelyurt to commemorate the 102nd Anniversary of August 30 Victory Day. Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar was present at the ceremony, which took place in front of the Atatürk Monument across from the Güzelyurt District Governor’s Office.
The event began at 9:00 with the laying of wreaths in protocol order. A two-minute silence was observed, followed by the reading of the National Anthem and the raising of flags. The ceremony continued with the inspection of ceremonial units in front of the Güzelyurt Archaeological Museum.
During the ceremony, speeches were made by Infantry First Lieutenant Serhat Kalkan, representing the 49th Infantry Regiment Command of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces, and Güzelyurt Kurtuluş High School history teacher Deniz Kaya, representing the District Governor’s Office. They highlighted the significance of August 30 as a crucial moment in Turkish history.
The event concluded with a parade, during which Güzelyurt Kurtuluş High School student Görkem Pınar recited the poem “August 30”. The ceremony was a meaningful and patriotic tribute to the national holiday, celebrating the victories and achievements of the Turkish people.
