Challenges of Balloon Tours in Cappadocia: Dealing with Wind Obstacles
Hot Air Balloon Tours in Cappadocia Canceled Due to High Winds
Due to the wind speeds exceeding 25 kilometers per hour, hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia have been canceled. Tourists who were hoping to experience the bird’s eye view of the valleys, fairy chimneys, and natural rock formations have been left disappointed as a result.
The scheduled tours, which usually take place before sunrise in Göreme town, Nevşehir, have been affected by the adverse weather conditions. The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) Nevşehir Coordination Office made the decision to cancel the tours following the evaluation of the wind speeds.
Cappadocia is known for its hot air balloon tours, which can normally be operated for around 200 days a year. However, the winter conditions, including wind, fog, and rain, often lead to the cancellation of these tours.
These flights can only be operated with the permission of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The safety and comfort of tourists are of utmost importance, and thus, the decision to cancel the tours was made in consideration of the unfavorable weather conditions.
In addition to the cancellation of the hot air balloon tours, the Nevşehir Journalists Association had planned an event to honor journalists who lost their lives in Israel’s attacks on Palestine. However, this event has also been postponed until further notice.
For now, tourists and locals alike will have to wait for the weather to improve before they can enjoy the breathtaking experience of a hot air balloon tour over the stunning landscape of Cappadocia.
